Al Michaels has called some of the biggest games in NFL history, but Thursday Night Football viewers were already cracking retirement jokes before the first quarter ended between the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks.
It only took one slip for the crowd to pounce. Michaels called Denver return man Marvin Mims Jr. by the wrong name, dropping a "Marvin Jones" on live TV.
Michaels has watched generations of NFL players come and go, but this time the mix-up confused an 11-year veteran who retired in 2023 with the Broncos WR who has played a role in Denver's offense since 2023.

One NFL viewer used sarcasm and tweeted, "Al Michaels... who is Marvin Jones?” before another chimed in to back hearing the veteran broadcaster's Marvin mistake.
Another fan asked directly, "Al Michaels, please hang it up." Michaels has been on television for over 55 years and even worked in local sports broadcasting before that.
A third football fan tagged Prime Video and begged the streaming platform to part ways with the 81-year-old veteran voice.
All of that happened before the game even really started. Seattle led Denver 3-0 with 6:31 left in the first quarter.
Criticism of Michaels was already piling up just like the 100+ offensive first-half yards for the Broncos. The Mims-Jones "Marvin" mix-up wasn't the only thing fans picked apart as Michaels kept talking.
