Charlize Theron isn't sure she'll ever live with a romantic partner again.
The Apex actress said that she'd love for her future partner to be "close," suggesting that they could "buy the house down the street" instead of moving in together.
"I’m looking for something very specific," she said.
Charlize Theron is protecting her space.
The Apex actress, 50, revealed on Tuesday’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show that she doesn’t believe that she’ll ever move in with a romantic partner again.
“I really mean this — people think I joke — I don’t think I could ever live with somebody again,” she told host Drew Barrymore. “I’m not sure I can.”

That doesn’t mean, however, that Theron doesn’t want her love interest around. “I would love for you to be close,” she added. “Like, buy the house down the street.”
Theron acknowledged that her feelings toward settling down with a special someone could change in the future. “Maybe it’s because I still have my daughters in the house and maybe that will change when I’m an empty nester,” she said. “But I’m looking for something very specific.”
Theron is mom to daughters Jackson, 14, and August, 11. While she’s had multiple longterm relationships throughout her life, Theron has been celebrating her single era and focusing on her family in recent years.

Barrymore — who is a parent to her own two daughters Olive, 13, and Frankie, 12 — could relate to Theron’s sentiment about wanting to put family first. “I love also prioritizing my kids and that has never felt like the wrong move for me,” she remarked. “And you seem the same way.”
“It’s impossible not to,” Theron replied. “Your kids come first. They always come first.”
Theron isn’t the only celebrity that believes in keeping a bit of physical space in a relationship. Whoopi Goldberg famously revealed on an episode of The View that she wasn’t interested in getting married again because she doesn’t “want somebody in my house.”
“I’m much happier on my own. I can spend as much time with somebody as I want to spend, but I’m not looking to be with somebody forever or live with someone,” Goldberg said at the time, per HuffPost. “I don’t want somebody in my house.”
The Drew Barrymore Show airs weekdays on CBS. Watch Theron discuss her need for space in the clip above.
