Courtney Love gives an update on her next record and reveals she ‘almost died’: ‘My body just exploded’

Courtney Love revealed that she “almost died” in England in 2019.
“I lost all my hair. I was about 100 pounds. And they told me I was gonna die.”
The singer said that her new album is “done”: “I put a lot into it.”
Courtney Love is getting a lot off her chest.
The Hole singer shared a video on Instagram detailing the progress she’s made on a new album, and also revealed a private health struggle that she never discussed publicly.
“I went to England in 2019 and when I went there, you know, my body just exploded,” Love said. “It just exploded. And I was in hospitals a lot. I almost died, I lost all my hair. I was about 100 pounds. And they told me I was gonna die, and I didn’t believe them.”

Love didn’t specify what specific conditions she grappled with, but related her disbelief at her terminal prognosis to a childhood memory.
“When I was a kid — and I think this record was about this — I used to pattern interrupt the adults,” she said. “They’d say red was blue, and then I’d see blue, but blue was blue, so now that I gaslight myself that maybe they were right, and red was blue, and then I would see purple, and my head would explode. Like f---ing cope with that s---, right?”
She continued, “I never really lost my ability to see that red was red. Despite them telling me that red was blue. And so when they said you’re going to die, I just didn’t believe them. And somehow, I got better. I’m healthy, which is amazing.”
She added, “I just wasn’t public about being sick. I don’t wanna be public. I’m fine now.”

Love has not released an album since Hole’s 2010 record Nobody’s Daughter, which only sold 33,000 copies in the U.S. after the group’s previous two albums sold over 1 million copies each.
The singer said that the commercial underperformance of Nobody’s Daughter knocked her down a peg. “I put out a record, it flopped,” she said. “I mean spectacular, humbling, like playing a place called Pizza Hut Park at 11 a.m. while Limp Bizkit was headlining with 30 Seconds to Mars — that s---‘s humbling.” (Hole played Edgefest in 2010 at Dallas’ Toyota Stadium, which was then known as Pizza Hut Park.)

Love said that she’s finished with her new album, and she’s proud of it. “It’s done. My record’s done,” she said. “It’s kinda been done. It’s a really good record. I put a lot into it.”
The singer said that she’s still cooking up a release strategy. “I’m just tapping in, figuring out how to roll this out,” she said. “Things are great. There’s so much spectacular stuff. People sound great live. The girlies are amazing. Yeah. S---’s amazing. I just need to understand how to do this. Anyway. Yeah, I will be back.”
