The Colorado football coach looked back on the past year of treatment
Sanders also spoke about the upcoming season
Deion Sanders is looking back on the past year ā and celebrating a milestone in his health.
āI consider myself cancer-free,ā the University of Colorado football coach, 58, told the on Monday, June 29.
One year after undergoing robotic surgery to remove his cancerous bladder, Sanders reflected on the turning point.
āI was fighting,ā he told the AP. āI was walking out on the property with a bag of blood and also urine and trying to get back. But this expedited the process. Last year at this time I was in a whole different place, and Iām just thankful.ā
He added, āIf I pull my shirt up, Iām not scarred, itās not flawed. Iām not embarrassed by anything that transpired. Iām elated by everything that transpired.ā

Now, on the cusp of a new football season, Sanders is also looking forward to turning a new page after last yearās 3-9 setback.

"I have the best coaching staff I've ever featured. Everybody's unified," Sanders said.
The coach pointed to a revitalized locker room, and the continued growth of quarterback Julian Lewis.
As for his former quarterback and son Shedeur Sanders, Deion has a simple wish.
"I just want him to be happy," the father of five said regarding Shedeur, who is vying for the starting quarterback position with the Cleveland Browns.
