Former Vol John-Patrick Smith wins 2026 Wimbledon first-round match

The first round of men's doubles competition took place Wednesday at the 139th edition of the Wimbledon Championships in London, England.

Former Vol John-Patrick Smith competed with doubles partner Fernando Romboli on Court 4. The duo defeated Karol Drzewiecki and Kamil Majchrzak, 5-7, 7-6 (11-9), 7-6 (10-8).

In the first-round, Smith and Romboli totaled 11 aces and five double faults. The duo also recorded a 72 first serve percentage, 93 service points and 17 service games won.

Smith played at Tennessee from 2007-11, compiling a 152-44 singles and 146-38 doubles record. He became the second player in the history of college tennis to earn All-America honors four times in both singles and doubles, joining Rick Leach of USC (1984-87).

Smith’s highest ranking was No. 1 in singles and doubles competition. He earned SEC Player of the Year honors from 2010-11 and was named 2010 SEC Tournament Most Valuable Player. The former Vol was also the 2008 SEC Freshman of the Year and 2011 SEC Athlete of the Year.

He is from Townsville, Australia.
