Gayle King surprised Sherri Shepherd by wearing a matching dress during Shepherd's final live taping of Sherri

"I love a good surprise!" King wrote on Instagram. "@sherrieshepherd’s team invited me to her last live show today and asked that I wear the same @bruceglen dress"

Shepherd's talk show was canceled after four seasons but will continue airing episodes through the fall

Gayle King made a stylish show of support for Sherri Shepherd during her final live taping.

Ahead of April 30's episode of Sherri — which was canceled on Feb. 2 — King, 71, revealed that she would be stepping out in the same multicolored BruceGlen dress as the host during her appearance.

"I love a good surprise! @sherrieshepherd’s team invited me to her last live show today and asked that I wear the same @bruceglen dress," King shared on Instagram, alongside a video of herself backstage at Shepherd's eponymous talk show.

"It’s a thing with me and Sherri! I can’t imagine daytime TV without Sherri," King added of her longtime friend and fellow TV host, 59. "There’s nobody like her on the air and here’s hoping she’s back on TV with a new show sooner rather than later. In the meantime, lucky us we can keep watching @sherrishowtv until end of May!"

In the sweet clip, King can be seen gathering up a bouquet of flowers to give Shepherd during her final live taping before she heads on stage.

The fashionable surprise was a coordinated effort between Shepherd's team and King, as she explained on Thursday's episode that she and King have been spotted wearing the same outfits on multiple occasions.

"I'm convinced that Gayle has a vision board in her house, and it is just pictures of me," Shepherd joked before King came out on stage.

After King's surprise entrance, she quipped to Shepherd, "Bitch stole my look."

The pair then shared a heartfelt moment, and King shared her support amid the show's cancellation.

Shepherd's daytime talk show was canceled after four seasons in February, PEOPLE previously reported.

“This decision is driven by the evolving daytime television landscape and does not reflect on the strength of the show, its production – which has found strong creative momentum this season – or the incredibly talented Sherri Shepherd,” Debmar-Mercury co-presidents Ira Bernstein and Mort Marcus said in a statement to PEOPLE. “We believe in this show and in Sherri and intend to explore alternatives for it on other platforms.”

During her first episode after the news of the cancellation broke, the Sherri host expressed her gratitude for her audience and admitted she wasn't ready to say goodbye just yet.

"I want to be clear: I'm not ready to throw in the towel on this show just yet. I'm not. I'm not," Shepherd, 58, said. "We're gonna be airing episodes all through the fall. And we're going to continue to fight to keep this show alive in some way, shape or form. If anybody knows me, they know I'm a fighter. I don't know exactly what it's going to look like, but I promise, I am going to continue to spread joy."

Filmed at Chelsea Studios in New York City, Sherri will continue production on its fourth season with the last episodes set to air this fall.

Shepherd previously won a Daytime Emmy in 2009 for The View, where she was a full-time co-host from 2007 to 2014 and later made a brief return. She launched Sherri in September 2022.
