Lauren Graham confirmed thereās ongoing chatter about a potential Gilmore Girls special. In a March 2026 interview with Entertainment Tonight, the actress, who played Lorelei Gilmore on the beloved comedy-drama series from 2000 to 2007 and in a four-part 2016 revival, admitted there is always ātalkā about a sequel project.
āThereās talk about it, thereās always talk,ā Graham, 58, replied when asked specifically if a Christmas movie was in the works. āI donāt want to fuel any flames, but thereās always talk.ā
Graham first pitched the idea of a holiday special or movie last year as Gilmore Girls celebrated its 25th anniversary. She told The Hollywood Reporter in October that she was āalways openā to reprising Lorelai. āThereās no reason why I wouldnāt be,ā she said. āIāve always said a Christmas movie seems like a way to revisit the characters. That wouldnāt have to be a full series, and I think would make sense for dressing up the town and having a holiday-themed gathering. So thatās what Iāve been saying, but Iām not in charge.ā
A āGilmore Girlsā Book is in the works
One project that is in the works is a Gilmore Girls book, co-authored by Graham and series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino. The book will take fans behind the scenes of the series, and it is expected to have a fall 2027 release, per People magazine.
Graham told ET that being āin dialogueā with Sherman-Palladino has been helpful as she rewatches the series for the book. ā[It] helps me remember a lot,ā she shared. āMy brain was so full of lines [back] then. A lot of it is a blur, so itās been really interesting because thereās been a lot of questions I never asked her about what was going on in any given season, and how I got there. So I hope there will be a lot of new information for fans.ā

āSheās really busy, so itās been a little bit of slow going,ā Graham added of her project with the Gilmore Girls showrunner.
In a second interview with Extra, Graham said she felt āhonored" to work on the book with her former boss.
āI think it'll be a story about Gilmore Girls, but also to me it's a story of friendship, and it's a story of kind of these two people, you know, we met at a certain place, and now we're friends and colleagues still many years later,ā she shared. āI would argue closer friends. So, that's some of what it will be.ā
The Gilmore Girls star noted that Sherman-Palladino needed to finish up other projects so they could really dig into their book collaboration. āShe's got to stop working and directing movies, though, because she's so busy,ā Graham said. āBut we'll get it. We'll get it done.ā
