Is Target open or closed on New Year's Day 2026? Here's what to know
A new year is here, and many are looking to jump on their to-do lists and resolutions for 2026.
If that entails shopping for you, you're in luck. Most grocery, retail, and restaurant chains will remain open on New Year's Day, albeit some with adjusted hours. Banks, post offices, and the stock market will be closed on the holiday.
But Target will definitely be an option. Stores will be open regular hours on New Year's Day, a company spokesperson told USA TODAY.

Walmart: 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
BJ's Wholesale: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Kroger family of stores; The Kroger family of stores includes: Baker’s, City Market, Dillons, Food 4 Less, Foods Co, Fred Meyer, Fry’s, Gerbes, Jay C Food Store, King Soopers, Kroger, Mariano’s, Metro Market, Pay-Less Super Markets, Pick’n Save, QFC, Ralphs, Ruler, Smith’s Food and Drug.
Food Lion: Regular operating hours
Publix: Most stores close at 7 p.m.; Stores in Atlanta and Charlotte close at 8 p.m.
Meijer: 6 a.m. to midnight
Whole Foods: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Harris Teeter: Regular operating hours
