Kate Middleton had a sweet word for a young boy during her mountain climbing challenge.

On Sunday, June 28, Kensington Palace announced that the Princess of Wales, 44, completed the National Three Peaks Challenge over the weekend to highlight life beyond cancer and support The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.

The Three Peaks Challenge tasks participants with climbing the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales within 24 hours, and Princess Kate completed the trek after setting out on Saturday evening.

As seen in fan footage shared to Instagram, the Princess of Wales shared a moment with an 11-year-old boy named Ted Haslam along the way at Ben Nevis mountain in Scotland, LBC reported.

In a total mom moment, Princess Kate — who shares Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 8, with Prince William — made sure that Ted was dealing with the inclement weather okay as they chatted.

“How are you doing, Ted? You're not too cold?" asked Princess Kate. "So many people are still in their T-shirts! Why are they doing that?"

She also asked about Ted's "lucky mascot," which represented the Molly Ollys charity he was fundraising for.

Ted was paralyzed after being diagnosed with an aggressive spinal tumor at age 3 and made the trek with a group of family and friends, who pushed and carried his wheelchair. The group embarked to fundraise for Molly Ollys, which provided him with play equipment when he was previously hospitalized.

The Princess of Wales praised the mission as "fantastic" and commented that the drizzly, cloudy weather was a "shame" as it obstructed views, telling Ted she was "so impressed" and adding that "we'll be cheering you on" during the journey to scale all three peaks.

Princess Kate has spoken about the solace nature brought her while she was receiving cancer treatment, and her completion of the Three Peaks Challenge took that to new heights. The Princess of Wales shared in March 2024 that she was undergoing treatment for cancer, and in January 2025, she announced that she was in remission following a visit to The Royal Marsden Hospital, where she received treatment.

The Princess of Wales undertook the ambitious endeavor — which features 23 miles of hiking with a total elevation gain of 10,052 feet — alone, with support from Mountain Rescue. Mount Snowdon in Wales was her final climb, and she was met at the end by Prince William, their three children, her parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, and her brother, James Middleton.

The Princess of Wales shared a statement and video to social media to talk about why she scaled the summits and what she hoped to achieve with the feat.

"Lots of people have asked me why I'm doing this challenge, and partly it's personal. I'm so grateful to be here, to be strong enough to walk these hills. But more importantly, it's to give something back and acknowledge all the incredible work going on up and down this country," she said in the video message.

"I have met some incredible people, those people who are living with and beyond cancer, and I know personally how difficult that journey is and I really wanted to use this opportunity as my way of contributing to all the wonderful work that's going on and in particular, to support the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, an organization very dear to me, who do extraordinary work supporting those living with and beyond the disease."

The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity later announced that it opened a dedicated fundraising page for people to donate, explaining in a statement that the funds will be used for more cancer patients to benefit from holistic care.

The Princess of Wales paid a powerful visit to The Christie NHS Foundation Trust earlier this month to draw attention to the value of holistic care in cancer treatment.

In January 2025, Princess Kate and Prince William were announced as Joint Patrons of The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust amid her visit to the Royal Marsden, which came with the confirmation that she had received cancer treatment there.
