Actress Evangeline Lilly shared an update on her health on New Year's Day after a severe head injury from an accident she suffered last year.
Lilly fainted and had an unexpected fall at the beach last May, resulting in a gruesome injury to her face, requiring stitches and dental work. The Lost star also suffered a serious concussion that has affected her for months after the event.
On Thursday, the 46-year-old star shared a candid update on her Instagram, revealing some "bad news" about the aftereffects of her traumatic brain injury.

Lilly can be seen casually lounging at home in the self-recorded video. While gently smiling, she admits that she has received an update from her recent brain scans showing brain damage from her traumatic brain injury (TBI). "Almost every area of my brain is operating at a decreased capacity," the star says.
The actress continues her vulnerable admission saying that she is working closely with her medical team to determine any possible related factors, and "embark on the hard work of fixing it."
Amongst thousands of messages of support, fellow actress and co-star, Michelle Pfeiffer, took the time to share hers, "You are a warrior. Nothing-not even this will defeat you my friend. ❤️"
Other fans of the star shared their shock and unwavering support for the actress, "No Evangeline no... This is the saddest news I could have in this new year. I'm crying for you. I'm sorry from the bottom of my heart, please, Evangeline, fight with all your strength, don't give up😢❤️🙏💔," one devastated fan wrote.
"I’m so sorry to hear this. Wishing you all the best and sending you a huge amount of love," echoed another.
Yet another shared a message of encouragement and healing, "You're a strong woman, not just physically, but also spiritually, and the mind can overcome anything. I believe in you, in your strength to recover. We'll keep sharing the journey @evangelinelillyofficial."
The tone of Lilly's update shifted to gratefulness for what she has gained since the accident. "My cognitive decline since I smashed my face open has helped me to slow down," the star shared. She goes on to say that her current health crisis has given her the calmest most restful holiday season that she has experienced since having children, 14 years ago.
Several months before the incident, the actress, who also starred in the Ant-Man and Hobbit film series, said she was taking a break from acting for the foreseeable future. It sounds like that break may be extended for the time being, and her return to the screen remains unknown as she focuses on her health and wellness in 2026.
