The White House hasn’t taken kindly to comments The Chicks’ frontwoman Natalie Maines made at a recent concert, where she said she is ashamed of President Donald Trump.

ā€œNatalie Maines is a despicable nobody who clearly suffers from a severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome that has rotted her peanut-sized brain,ā€ the White House said in a statement to Fox News Digital.

This came after The Chicks kicked off their Taking the Long Way 20th Anniversary Tour in Manhattan this week. According to Billboard, the band played a video montage of political pundits losing their minds over the idea that someone might not like a sitting president.

After the montage finished, Maines said she would ā€œneverā€ submit to the ā€œshut up and singā€ brigade. ā€œWe thought that was the worst it could get,ā€ she continued, referencing her criticism of George W. Bush in 2003. ā€œNow I’d give George Bush a big wet kiss. Because now we’re ashamed the president of the United States is from the United States.ā€

Maines landed herself in hot water back in 2003 when she publicly disagreed with the Iraq War. ā€œJust so you know, we do not want this war, this violence, and we’re ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas,ā€ she said, referring to Bush.

Reactions to Maines’ latest comments about Trump were mixed, with many praising her and others telling her to stick to music.

ā€œStill hasn’t learned after 20 plus years. Just entertain, that’s all you need to do,ā€ wrote one X user.

ā€œDang, she is trying to ruin her career again,ā€ said another.

ā€œI’m so tired if hearing about entertainers’ political opinions. Shut up and play music. We don’t care about your opinion,ā€ another added.

One Instagram commenter showed their support, writing, ā€œThank you for always standing your ground. I’m very proud of the person you are.ā€

ā€œYou’re amazing, and fierce and no one can’t take that away,ā€ said another.

ā€œYou stood up for yourself which is hard to do publicly. But you did it and continue to do it, which then trickles down to us. Thank you,ā€ one commenter added.

ā€œForever my inspiration. We love you,ā€ added another.

Another wrote, ā€œIt was the correct thing to say back then and is definitely the correct thing to say now. Bravo Chicks.ā€

Maines previously provoked the White House’s ire in May when she unleashed a rant about Trump on Instagram. ā€œOur democracy is disappearing right before our eyes. This fugly slut is using your gas money to pay the insurrectionists,ā€ she wrote. ā€œBut don’t worry about it. I’m sure posting selfies will fix everything.ā€

She added, ā€œMy last post that called him a fugly slut got removed. We’ll see how long this one lasts. Repost and help the message live.ā€

At the time, the White House responded with the same ā€œpeanut-sized brainā€ retort.
