According to TV Insider, NCIS Season 24 Episode 2 began with Tony in the Director's chair, who explained his new approach to the team. He staged a false biohazard alarm to gather his team, urging his agents to focus on their cases while assuring them he would provide the necessary support. Tired of Tony's meddling, the team asked McGee to talk to the new Director.
Here is the complete recap.
NCIS Season 24 Episode 2 recap: The team solves a twisted case
In NCIS Season 24 Episode 2, couple, Linda and Greg, hosted a dinner party at their house, with Naval Intelligence Officer Mallory in attendance. Things took a turn when Linda left to get more wine. She was shocked to see that her husband and the guests were gassed unconscious and armed men entered the house in search of something. When the men did not find anything, they left the house, seemingly leaving Greg and the guests unharmed.
McGee and the team's investigation took a turn in NCIS Season 24 Episode 2 when Linda reported Greg missing. The team tracked down Greg's car, with his body inside. While Linda initially suspected a heart attack, it was eventually revealed that Greg was murdered by poisoning.
When Kasie investigated the house's vacuum cleaner motherboard, she found camera-equipped smart devices, which connected the case to the CIA.

Parker's conversation with CIA agent Russell Cross gave the case a new direction in NCIS Season 24 Episode 2. It turns out that Greg was part of a scheme with long-term deep-cover operatives. After the CIA got intel, they started keeping tabs on him. While the agency took responsibility for gassing out the dinner party guests, they had no hand in killing Greg.
Footage from dog feeder supplies revealed that Greg was killed by Linda. It turns out that Linda was in on Greg's operation and their marriage was a cover. When Greg's hair loss dr*g posed a threat to their operation, Linda murdered her partner for the greater good. Now that the team had solved the conspiracy behind Greg's murder, all left to do was arrest Linda.
This is where NCIS Season 24 Episode 2 featured one of its most shocking twists. Tony stopped McGee and his team from arresting Linda. He believed that Linda and the operation were part of a bigger deal and her arrest would tip off the orchestrators. Tony hoped to use Linda as bait to capture the bigger fish, as he explained to the team:
“I know something’s coming down the pike, something bad, very bad, something a lot of very smart people are very worried about. I’m not happy about letting her go, but we’ll get her eventually; this is good for us, Tim.”
McGee has a new career opportunity in NCIS Season 24 Episode 2
After the case,NCIS Season 24 Episode 2 turned to McGee's conversation with Tony. The new director finally explained his different approach to the job. It was important for him to be part of the investigation, as Tony feared the Director's job could kill one's soul. It was important for him to blow off some steam by doing what he does best: catching the bad guys. The conversation explained Tony's position to McGee and gave a reason behind his actions all day.
Finally, Tony shifted the conversation to McGee and revealed he was not passed over for the Director's position. SECNAV had something else in mind and wanted McGee to take over her position after she retires.
