Separate bedroom setups are having a moment, with a string of celebrities, from Kaley Cuoco and Cameron Diaz to Gwyneth Paltrow, previously opening up about their decision to part ways after midnight.

Sony PicturesMore recently, biohacker Bryan Johnson chimed in, admitting he has "never slept with" his long-term girlfriend Kate, sparking a wider debate around whether solo sleeping is something we all secretly enjoy more.

"We sleep separately. It has saved our relationship and my sanity. We will occasionally sleep over. In absolute complete agreement on this," one responded.
While another argued: "There is no better sleep than having sex and then falling asleep. I don't need data to prove that."
However, a third believes: “I think the quality of your sleep with or without your partner is directly correlated to the quality of the relationship.”
Now, more people are becoming vocal about their 'bedroom divorces', and apparently, it works wonders not only for your sanity, but your sex life, too.
Sex and relationships coach Gemma Nice, who works with sexual health retailer Condoms UK, believes that when you’re not subconsciously worrying about whether your partner is going to keep you awake at night, your body "drops into rest and digestion," meaning stress hormones are lowered, the body releases more serotonin, and you wake up feeling happy and refreshed.

Gemma makes clear that separate bedrooms aren't a fix in themselves, but says intentionality is everything.
"Couples who make it work do it as a conscious pact for a healthy, trustworthy and connective relationship. They stay open, honest, raw and real about their needs," she adds. "They don't call the second bedroom the spare room – they call it their room, moving their personal belongings in so it feels like an empowering, comfortable space rather than a punishment."
"Crucially, they still schedule time for touch, cuddling, and sex before sleeping separately."
