The actor made the decision to exit the show due to the problem caused by the cross-country commute. He had to be away from his family for nine months to film the series. Thus, James Badge Dale will be taking over Riley’s position as Detective Robert Calvino. The recent episode covered the death sequence of Riley.

Riley was pursuing Ray and forgot to wear a bulletproof vest in a hurry. He texted Walker for backup and continued following Ray. Things took a shooting turn as Ray ended up shooting Riley twice in the chest and fled. Walker finally shows up and finds Riley bleeding. Riley is rushed to the hospital, but the doctors fail to save him. The squad is disturbed following Riley’s sudden death. However, they decide to investigate the case and bring the culprit to justice.
Vincent’s brother, Matt Riley, also arrived to speak to Walker regarding the tragedy. Moreover, Matt threatened grave consequences, saying, “I don’t know, man. If he gets off, I’m worried I might kill this guy.” Walker shrugged off his comment, and Matt responded, “No, man, I’m serious. I know what I’m capable of; I know who I am. If this SOB walks out of the courtroom a free man.” Walker hoped they would never reach this point, while Matt did not need hope and asked Walker if he was sure he didn’t see Ray’s face. Matt believed a witness can help Riley’s family get justice.
The episode also showed Brady’s emotional speech for Riley. “Though Vince is no longer with us his courage his humor and his inherent sense of decency will live on through all of us, especially his two beautiful children,” she said. Brady continued, “Vince didn’t pick and choose going to be a hero or when to do the right thing. That’s just who he was and how he was, so in my humble opinion, there’s never been someone more deserving to have his name and legacy memorialized here at the NYPD Wall of Honor.”
